A REAL SPACE STATION
The current International Space Station orbiting Earth will fall back to Earth and burn up in
the atmosphere if it is not maintained by a regular supply of energy to boosts it's decaying
orbit due to atmospheric drag which slows it's speed as it is orbiting around Earth. This
space station is limited in it's potential, good for research and getting people interested in
space. This limited space station may not have been necessary, designs for near Earth orbit
space stations should have been rejected in favor of constructing a better space station in
space where it naturally lends it's self for construction and not in Earth's orbit! The
several cubic miles of space of neutral gravity between Earth and the Moon is the only ideal
location near by for a real space station. Lets take up aluminum girders that can create the 3
dimensional skeleton of a large space station bolting or welding these components together in
place. Then take up aluminum sheet metal and mount it to the frame to form rooms that can be
pressurized to 1 atmosphere and continue on from there creating an insulated life supporting
environment where several thousand people could work and live permanently. Later on I imagine
them building large space ships at the space station to be used for long range exploration of
the local region of space in our galaxy. Materials for construction of these large space ships
could be mined and brought to the station from the surface of the Moon. I see a bright future
for the international space program if it could build a real and useful space station that
serves a functional purpose in the neutral gravitational field between the Earth and the Moon
where there would be no limit on expanding the size, function and usability of that space
station.
